When we arrived at Purple Ginger II, we received much more than a peek of the restaurant. We experienced a fantastic show. We began with a tour of the banquet rooms, the full bar, the open kitchen, and the outside patio. Absolutely beautiful! The detailed design of the restaurant makes it truly stand out amongst Asian eateries.

Purple Ginger II prides itself in offering modern Asian cuisine prepared and presented using traditional Asian disciplines, which allows the integration of other great Asian fusion flavors, innovative techniques and a variety of global influences. It is the second Purple Ginger, recently opened after its original Lakewood location received much praise.

Owners Ricky and Anna Choi have been in the restaurant business for 30 years. Ricky received culinary training in Hong Kong, which he instills in his recipes.

The gracious staff began our meal by bringing a Chardonnay wine and a plum wine, which was paired nicely with the dishes that followed. The first appetizer we enjoyed was the Asian Tacojito. The dish contained ahi tuna, rice and mango salsa in mini taco shells served on a bed of avocado. How refreshing! Next we tried two sushi rolls: Seared Tuna Roll and the signature Purple Ginger Roll. Both were smashingly unique.

Then the dishes kept coming. My favorite was the Crispy Salmon, wild caught salmon crusted with basil pesto, roasted, paired with coconut rice risotto and zucchini carpaccio. We all agreed that the rice was addictingly delicious. The ShaoShing Pork Shank was also a splendid rarity. The meat came melting right off the bone—juicy, hot and tender. Next we received an order of the Ginger Scallion Shrimp and Panang Curry. The shrimp was breaded and stir-fried with eggs and scallions in a light ginger sauce and on a bed of fresh bok choy. The curry was rich with coconut milk, crushed peanuts, mushrooms, bell peppers and zucchini.

And just when we thought our meal was coming to an end, we were surprised with a plate of Volcano Fried Rice. This is specially made with basil, eggs, red and green onions, peas and carrots and served with lemon wedges. Named by the Choi’s son, volcano implies the spicy flavors of the fried rice dish.

Purple Ginger II offers a full bar with happy hour specials Monday to Friday from 3 PM to 7 PM. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for any occasion. Banquet and board rooms are available for corporate businesses, weddings, birthdays and private events. For an Asian fusion dining experience unlike any other, Purple Ginger II is sure to please.
