Fellow sushi enthusiasts will most likely agree that although the cuisine can be pricey, sometimes cravings simply overpower your desire to budget. However, Okinawa, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar located on West Ken Caryl Avenue in Littleton, is proving to local sushi lovers that fresh fish does not have to come with a hefty price tag.

“We’ve had a lot of customers say how reasonable the prices are for the quality and freshness of the sushi,” said Phillip Yu, Okinawa’s manager.

Okinawa celebrated their one-year anniversary on August 29; the business is a part of a group of restaurants run by Yu’s family. They have Chinese restaurants in cities like La Junta and Pagosa Springs, but Okinawa is their first sushi endeavor. They prepare everything on their menu from scratch including all their sauces and take the freshness of their fish very seriously.

Their Sushi and Sashimi for Two is definitely large enough to fulfill the sushi cravings of three to four individuals. It features 10 pieces of sushi, 10 pieces of sashimi, a rainbow roll and a chef’s special roll on a beautifully decorated plate. The sushi and sashimi is not only beautifully presented, but noticeably fresh.
Okinawa is also a destination for lovers of hand rolls and specialty rolls; enjoy a classic salmon skin roll or a signature Ken Caryl Roll.

The Silk Roll and the Black Dragon Roll are Yu’s recommendations. Make sure to leave room for dessert, for Okinawa also features mochi ice cream and fresh fruit.

Another unique feature at Okinawa that makes it worth a visit is their live lobster sashimi; Yu said it is the only restaurant in the area to have the fresh creation supplied by new lobster tanks.

Okinawa offers popular $5.99 daily lunch specials with hot kitchen and sushi specials. Or visit them during happy hour from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for two-for-one beer, sake and house wine.
